This lesson introduces yet another handy building block – a "Definition". Learn what it is and how our team utilises it in daily practice.

Every context has a "definitions" section.

The definition is a reusable pipeline, and its result is available for all the actions across all the contexts. Definitions can reference other definitions. In your action or Placeholder, insert the "Definition.use" pipe to consume the outcome.

Extract the functionality shared by multiple actions
Play with the data before implementing any particular actions that consume it.

Our team says

Quite useful to have global defintions - e.g. all <buttons> or all <prices> which will get the appropriate elements for the context that you're on.
We tend to use Definitions when dealing with reusable lists with metadata attached to them, e.g. a ul > li with lots of Object.setPath's
When it comes to scraping complex nested lists, such as flights that contain sub-lists of fares, using definitions makes scripts readable and, therefore, maintainable.
