This lesson is a guide through your automation Script management options. Keep the files locally on your computer or in the Automation Cloud.

The Autopilot is a tool for authoring and testing automation Scripts. The Script is a program representing an automation scenario in an action-by-action manner.

Your computer

The Autopilot expects a file with a .automation extension. Use File > Save to save a snapshot of the Script to your file system. Use File > Open... to load one. Every time you hit "Save", the previous version of the file gets overridden with the changes. As simple as that.

To compare two versions, File > Open the older one, then File > Load as Diff Base… the latest version. You should see yellow and green highlights marking some contexts, actions and pipes. The yellow colour indicates changes, the green – additions.

Note that a file on your computer is not accessible for the Automation Cloud. Hence no remote execution is possible.

The Automation Cloud

This option shines when you're ready to execute your Script remotely. Learn more about the remote Script execution in the Automation Job, Inputs & Outputs lesson.

In the Automation Cloud, we group various versions of the same Script under a Service entity. Each version is immutable.

A Service is ready to execute Scripts when one of the versions is active. Only one version is functional at a time, so activating one version deactivates the other.

If there is no active version, the Service is not yet executable in the Automation Cloud. You can change the "active" version using the File > Manage Versions link (opens your Automation Cloud Dashboard).
